Several fishing opportunities at Lake Lorraine in coming weeks

With August just around the corner, summer is creeping into the school season. But — there are still several opportunities to fish at Lake Lorraine with South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks.

Lake Lorraine is privately owned and fishing is not allowed. A partnership between Friessen Development and South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks that started several years ago has enabled the public to safely access the lake and learn more about fishing.

All GFP fishing events are free with equipment provided. Some are pop-up events, meaning participants can just show up. Others have size limits, primarily due to available equipment. For example, a spearfishing class scheduled for Saturday, July 26, has a waiting list.

This weekend is the debut of a new fishing class, thanks to a collaboration between GFP and Flow and Paddle, paddleboard fishing. It is Saturday, July 26 from 10-11:30 a.m. This free class allows participants to catch and release fish off paddleboards. For those who’ve shore-fished from the lake before, this is an opportunity to hit different fishing spots. All of the equipment is provided — fishing pole, bait, stand-up paddleboard and paddle and  lifejacket. Class size is limited and participants must have experience with SUP. Register here. Learn more about the class from this Dakota News Now story.

Two dates remain for the pop-up fishing events held in conjunction with the weekly Lake Lorraine Farmers Market and one Saturday date has been added.
