Is Halloween at Lake Lorraine free? Do I need a ticket?
Halloween at Lake Lorraine is free and no tickets are required! If you want to participate in the Costume Contest, you will need to pre-register by Oct. 24 (or sooner — there’s limited room!).
Is it open to all ages?
This event is family-friendly. The Costume Contest is open to children up to age 13. Please keep your furry friends at home, however.
What should I wear?
We encourage everyone to come out in costume! (Yes, even adults!) We’ve got lots of great photo ops around the lake — with your favorite characters, selfie stations and our official photo booth. Be sure to capture some great memories while you’re having fun around the lake.
Where is the event?
All around the Lake Lorraine development at participating businesses. See the event map for details. Lake Lorraine is located between Marion Road and Interstate 29, between 26th and 41st streets. You can take either exit to get to the development.
Where do I start?
This is the best part — stay for as long as you like and visit as many shops as you like. And you can start wherever works best for you! Park and then walk from shop to shop on either the east or west sides of the lake (see the event map for participating businesses). You can also use the Lake Walk path to walk from one side of the lake to the other (please note that the west side is a finished trail and the east side is dirt). If it’s chilly or little legs don’t want to walk that far, we’ve got plenty of parking in front of the stores and off-street.
What time is the event?
The official event runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Many stores and restaurants will remain open into the evening for your dining and shopping pleasure! The Costume Contest will take place from 10-11 a.m.
Is there parking?
There is FREE parking all around the development. For those participating or attending the Costume Contest, held at Grand Living, please use the west parking lot or street parking along Terry Avenue or Westlake Drive.
If you’re going to hit up the Marion Road shops, you can also park in the Carsforsale.com north parking lot and walk across Westlake Drive to enter the activities at the west side of the lake.
Where can I get something to eat?
Food and beverage options are available on the west side of the lake:
Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery, 2400 S. Marion Rd., Suite 130
The SandBar and Grill, 2310 S. Marion Rd., Suite 100
Toppers, 2400 S. Marion Rd., Suite 160
Dakota Snow Food Truck, parked between two buildings on Marion Road; will be serving hot beverages and State Fair donuts
What if it’s cold — will you still hold Halloween at Lake Lorraine?
Yes, we know South Dakota weather can be unpredictable so be sure to dress warm! Many of our characters will be inside our stores and shops so you’ll be out of the elements.
Activities will also be indoors:
Pumpkin decorating on the east side of the lake will be inside Hobby Lobby.
Pumpkin decorating on the west side of the lake will take place in a retail space between Cornerstone Eye Clinic and Westside Chiropractic Center (2310 S. Marion Rd., Suite 150).
The Costume Contest will be indoors at Grand Living at Lake Lorraine (2815 Westlake Dr.).
A large tent will be between two buildings on Marion Road and will feature more trick-or-treating options plus a photo booth and photographer.
