The Lake Lorraine Story

The history of Lake Lorraine is decades in the making. When he was growing up, Warren Friessen always wanted to have his own lake, a place to fish whenever he pleased. He thought it would be nice to go fishing and to enjoy the view.

His life’s work as founder of Friessen Construction Company, a leading site-developer, allowed him to make his boyhood dream a reality. And together with his two daughters, Warren has given this gift to Sioux Falls and honored his late wife, Hilda Lorraine Friessen.

Friessen Development Inc., has shared parts of the story around the Lake Lorraine Lake Walk. Five different interpretive signs explain how the development was named, how it came to be a “lifestyle center” and more about the founder, Warren Friessen. They were installed in December 2024. The signs are spaced out along the one-mile path and help share the Friessen family’s legacy. Enjoy the story!
