Friessen Development and Flow and Paddle are launching the inaugural Loop the Lake Race event to be held Sunday, Sept. 12. Participants will “loop” Lake Lorraine racing either a stand-up paddleboard or kayak and compete for prizes and bragging rights.

Races will take place from 2-6 p.m., with check-in starting at 1 p.m. All activities will take place along the west side of Lake Lorraine off of Westlake Drive.

The public is also invited to attend and watch the races. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and sit along the west side of the lake enjoying live music and food trucks.

Registration is now open on the Flow and Paddle website. The cost is $25 per person per race. Participants will be assigned to different heats. You are able race your own recreational SUP or kayak. Participants may choose to race in more than one category. In addition, there will be Megalodon races, which are timed races for a team of four to six people paddling a super-sized stand-up paddleboard.

Because it is a privately-owned lake, public swimming and fishing aren’t allowed, with the exception of partnerships with Flow and Paddle and the South Dakota Department of Game Fish & Parks.

A complete schedule of events will be released soon.
