Bloodmobile coming to Lake Lorraine Farmers Market Aug. 29

The Lake Lorraine Farmers Market is hosting the Community Bloodmobile at the Thursday, Aug. 29 market.

From 4-7 p.m., the Bloodmobile will be parked on Westlake Drive, just east of the Farmers Market near 32nd Street and Marion Road. Earlier in the day the Bloodmobile will be at Total Card, Inc. on the east side of the lake.

A donor must be 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent form), be in good general health and weigh at least 110lbs. Before you donate, eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. An identification card is required at the time of donation. The blood donation is equivalent to about one pint or 495 ml. The actual donation will take about 7-10 minutes. Prior to donating, donor services staff will guide you through a mini-physical consisting of checking your pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and iron levels. You will be asked questions regarding risk behaviors, travel, medications, medical conditions, and other information required by the FDA.

The Community Blood Bank is a non-profit cooperative service of Avera McKennan and Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. They are the sole supplier of blood products to hospitals and healthcare organizations in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. All of the blood donated stays within the community.
