Moe's finds a home at Lake Lorraine
Dave and Tamara Dettler remember hearing about the idea of the Lake Lorraine development when they first first moved to Sioux Falls in 2004. The Dettlers started a business (You’ve Been Framed, located at the Bridges at 57th) but always kept this location in mind.
They were able to make the move to the lake In June 2017 when they opened Moe’s Home at Lake Lorraine, the first U.S. franchise of the home furnishings store. Moe’s offers a whole look for the home, with different styles. The styles — modern, rustic and mid-century — can go together. The buyer gets the benefit of mixing styles that will match without going to different stores.
Moe’s calls it design made simple — classic, understated pieces with clean lines and lots of functionality. You could also say there’s a bit of whimsy with some of the art and décor, too — like the large prints of colorful frogs wearing glasses.
Moe’s is a franchise, but is locally-owned. You can buy your furniture right off the floor. If it needs to be ordered, you often receive it within two weeks. This sales style helps satisfy that need for instant gratification, Tamara said. While many of the pieces have different finish options, the choices aren’t overwhelming for shoppers.
Being at Lake Lorraine is exactly where they want to be, Tamara said. “It’s going to be a total shopping destination for locals and visitors,” she said of the development. “From the hotels that are coming to the great access to the interstate, it’s all about location.”
In addition to furniture and home décor sales, Moe’s also offers design services, delivery and home staging. They work with designers and have staged numerous houses on the Parade of Homes.
“It’s a look that Sioux Falls has needed for a long time,” Tamara said of Moe’s style, which coordinates nicely with more modern homes.
The Dettlers aim to provide a comfortable shopping experience at Moe’s — “it’s a great atmosphere with a hip vibe and we want to help you in any way.”
Moe's Home is located at 2400 S. Marion Rd., Suite 100. Hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays from noon-4 p.m.
